Striking a Balance that Works for Everyone

Single-parenting can be hard, there’s no doubt about it.  Sometimes (ok, often) it results in extra responsibility for both Mom and daughter.  There’s more household to take care of between less people and sometimes that means your girl takes on some regular chores to help Mom out.  That’s not a bad thing and can result in lots of growth and self-confidence for her.

Striking a balance between work and play is key.

My little girl helped me with lots of things all through the week (still does!), but Friday nights were “her” nights at Nanny’s and Poppy’s for silliness, play and relaxation (movie sleepover followed by a fun breakfast).  While we often had errands to run/visiting to do on the weekend, I always made sure that we had one-on-one time to picnic at the park, engage in some pretend play or dress-up fun.  Being able to laugh and unwind together with no responsibilities was very important for balance!

Are you a single parent?  What are some of the things you do with your daughter to help strike a balance in your household?
